20 funny signs from around the world

A great theme of travel photography is the capturing of weird and wacky signs. We've had some classic examples uploaded to Travellerspoint over the years and so I decided to compile 20 of my favourites, in no particular order.

Hee hee!!! Thanks for those! Reminds me of a sign I saw on in Spain about not bringing animals on the beach. Someone had put a big sticker of an eye on the thing, so we dubbed it "No dogs with big eyes on the beach." I think I have a pic of it somewhere...

The Japanese "CLOSE 25:00" sign is actually NOT an example of Engrish or any typos. In Japan (I don't know about other countries), they refer to times after midnight by adding to the 24 hour clock. This eliminates the confusion of the question does 12:00am on Saturday mean the midnight between Fri & Sat or Sat & Sun.

It's a fair point daiko, but I didn't claim that it WAS an example of Engrish or a typo. It's just funny to anyone who is not used to seeing the 24 hour clock treated like that. :)

I can see how "OPEN FROM 08:30 - 01:00" would be confusing to some, which I assume is what the sign is attempting to avoid.

25:00 isn't a time on the 24H (military time) clock! The clock does from 0-24, then resets. If the person wanted to write 1:00PM, the correct time would have been 23:00.

Uhm, 1PM is actually 13:00. 23:00 is 11PM. It seems they wanted to write 1:00 AM though, which would simply be 01:00.

But admittedly, if people are struggling with the 24 hour clock system, then that could be confusing, because they may *think* it means 1 PM ..

Yup - Quebec uses the 24 hour clock, and 1 p.m. is 13:00. It's 11 p.m. that's 23:00. I've lived here all my life, though, and I still have to count it out on my fingers.

As I said this is most likely only Japanese convention. It is not the 24 hour clock per se, more of an adaptation of it. In the sign 25:00 refers to a time one hour after 24:00 (which on a strict 24H clock is actually 00:00, they don't loop from 0-24 that would make a 25 hour clock). Wouldn't it be impossible to be open from 08:00 to 01:00 since 01:00 refers to the first hour of the day and the sign implies the hours of operation take place on the same day?
