Best Travel Community

At times you come across people that clearly just don't know what they're talking about when they post their lists of best travel sites online. At other times, you just know the person has taken time, researched the market and actually come up with their own list without copying it off of some other site. I can only assume that Darren of Travel Rants is one such person after having rated Travellerspoint the best travel community of 2007 :)

Quoting "Darren @ Travel Rants"

There are thousands of travel community sites providing travellers with a platform to ask questions and write about their own travel experiences. I chose Travellerspoint because of the obvious passion for travel and the very useful wikitravel guide and travel maps.

Obviously a genius!

Totally agree...of course. Also, it is good to see that for travel inspiration a good alternative is Lonely Planet. I just would like to see that more people on travellerspoint use the forum for countries that are way off the beaten track. That basically is the only thing I miss at travellerspoint. I hope people won't use this against me, it is meant as a positive critic and maybe this can be added in the future. Maybe we have to put some travellerspoint spam on the lonelyplanet forum....just a thought..;-)

Yeah, the off the beaten track ones are tricky! It's a bummer too, since we actually have a handful of travel helpers for pretty much every country out there (no matter whose definition of country you're using :)), so when a country off the beaten track is selected as the topic, they would be notified. In other words even the off the beaten track threads get people reading the questions (answering is of course another question) which can only be a good thing. Of course with their traffic they can also have more sub-divisions which is more likely to inspire posts in smaller country divisions.

Ah well, one day!!
