Every month, Travellerspoint holds a photo competition for our members. Normally, we give you a specific theme, but this time around we went for an all-in challenge to find the best photos of 2009.

So here we present to you the 10 best travel photos of 2009! Congratulations to all the members whose photos made it into the top 10 — there was some stiff competition.

But the biggest congratulations goes to margaretm, who won the competition with her photo of a summer field in Spain.

Margaretm wins a $50 Amazon voucher, a Globetrotter's Logbook, and an increase of her photo upload limit by 5GB.

damienfoto wins a Globetrotter's Logbook as well as a 5GB increase of his photo upload limit on Travellerspoint by coming second.

We have a new competition this month, so head on over to find out what the new theme is.

Check out the results of past competitions:

Where is number 10..;)
I have some doubts about people joining and then asking friends for their photo. A few of them are really not up to top 10 standard compared to lots of others. And that's not only my subjectivity speaking I am sure.

One of the ones entered had to be disqualified, so that's why you only see 9 now.

Personally, of the photos entered, I think this is a pretty worthy bunch.

Hey there Peter, I am sure there was a good reason, (I am really bad of keeping track of things, especially my photos : ) But why was my photo disqualified? Congrats to margaretm, I always liked that phtoto. Right place, right time.

What happen with a photograph of 2 children in Varanasi?
Why was desqualified?

Two reasons.. 1. it was taken in 08 :) and 2. it was already a runner-up in a previous competition. Bummer for Ardy, it was a nice shot!

Yeah, sorry. It was posted by email and was awaiting moderation as a result. I know.. it's confusing lol :)

I also love the winning photo- it's stunning. But what are the rules about submitting the same photo twice for 2 different competitions? I've seen a few pictures come up a few times...if a photo comes in, say #12 one month, is it still ok to submit it for another competition- or is it just that the winning and second place pics cannot be submitted again?

Yes, the general rule is that winning photos and runner-ups can't enter again. If it finishes third, then you can enter it again if you think the theme fits better. Have a read over the guide article about the comp when entering and it will say what is and isn't allowed. Entering more than 3 photos is also not allowed for instance and can cause problems - mainly because random ones will show when voting, so your chances would be severely reduced.

Great photos. The first one is quite mysterious and cool.
