Alf?!? No way!
The obvious would be the backpacker guy on the logo (who was handy in helping me identify Isa and Beerman in Dublin), who I have just now dubbed "Travel Pavel" because it rhymes.
I would also make a suggestions for Dr. Who (who is quite well travelled, though I am not sure what impact the Tardis has on carbon emmission), Dora the Explorer, Bugs Bunny (he got around, usually by making wrong turns in Albequrque) or a cod (for no other reason than fish have big, googly eyes which are funny).
