Travel Photographer of the Year 2007

The winners of the Travel Photographer of the Year 2007 competition have just been picked.

And among them was Timothy Allen, who I interviewed twice earlier this year (here and here).

You can check out Timothy's winning portfolio here, or take a look at the gallery of the ultimate winner, Cat Vinton.

Photo of the Week: Ko Lipe, Thailand

Days_work.jpg

Evening sun catchs the delivery of new tourist to the haven of Ko Lipe - just days prior to the 'wave' hitting.

Cheryl (aka Good2Go) took this photo in Thailand in 2004. The 'wave' she refers to, of course, was the tsunami. Ko Lipe, which is in southwestern Thailand, experienced little damage that December.

Photo of the Week: Bolivian Salt Flats

Salt_hotel.jpg

If the photos I've seen on Travellerspoint are anything to go by (and they are), the Bolivian salt flats must be one of the most impressive, stunning places on earth.

Monkeyhands took this photo of a salt hotel turned into a museum. To see more of her photos and read about her experience on the Bolivian salt flats, check out her blog.

00_Lhasa_-..-_small.jpg

Travellerspoint member Schweboo took this photo on 31 September, 1987 in Lhasa, Tibet. He writes:

Two boys in Bharkor Square taken on the day before the 1 October 1987 riot in Lhasa. On that day, two boys like these two were shot and killed. The Jokhang temple is in the background.

Photo of the Week: Helsinki, Finland

day5_180su..t1crop4.jpg

As Sam pointed out that last week's photo of Lake Baikal was in fact taken from a train window, I thought I'd carry on the theme with this week's pick, shot by Mirri on a late-night train ride in Finland. I love the contrast between the deep blue sky and rich glow of the sun.
